The Faculty of Design invites applications for one full-time tenure-track teaching position at the Assistant Professor level in Graphic Design and First Year programs. The Graphic Design curriculum has a strong focus on design processes, typography, communication design, editorial design, packaging and strategic thinking. It engages students in the creation of principled, conceptually strong, imaginative and formally sound solutions to many types of communication problems. This position is expected to commence July 1, 2012 and is subject to budgetary approval.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach, pursue research and fulfill service obligations in the Faculty of Design, as well as: contribute to the ongoing development of the undergraduate and graduate curriculum; teach at all levels including undergraduate and graduate levels, with initial appointment in a number of first year courses; maintain an active research profile, to contribute to the on-going development of the undergraduate curriculum, as well as graduate; participate actively in the University-wide governance system, collaborative projects and partnerships, committees and other activities that contribute to the academic life of the University.
Qualifications: The ideal candidate will: hold a completed Master’s degree or other advanced degree in a relevant field, or equivalent in professional achievement in your field of communication design expertise; possess strong skills and expertise in motion graphics/time-based graphic theory and practice; have current knowledge of visual communication with specialization in Graphic Design, including a keen interest in the changing realities of the contemporary communication design landscape; have knowledge and demonstrated experience in using industry standard software, time-based graphics software, still photography and videography of significant importance is required (experience in additional 3D software, sound, and animation software are assets); possess professional recognition for motion graphics, as well as a strong record of professional practice including experience in Transmedia practice; have a proven record of teaching and an active role in program and/or curriculum development at a post-secondary level; be expected to teach at all undergraduate levels, as well as participate in graduate programs (teaching/supervising); show an aptitude for innovative curriculum development in a degree-granting art and design university; be expected to make significant contributions to research and scholarship in the field; provide service to the Faculty- and University-wide governance system, as well as service activities and outreach initiatives that contribute to the academic life and profile of the University; have a demonstrated commitment to the principles of equity and diversity, and proven ability to work effectively and collegially with a diversity population; have outstanding communication, interpersonal and time-management skills.

Position Description: The Space studio faculty will be an artist, designer, educator and active professional who will teach in the Design Foundation Program. This position is responsible for leading and teaching the foundation-level curriculum for the "Space" studio. The Space studio is designed to cultivate the ability to think, perceive, visualize, design and build in three dimensions. This position will utilize a contemporary mix of experimental design studio processes to develop a student's ability to understand, envision and communicate effectively about space, objects, scale and the relationship of the body to the built environment. Students will acquire knowledge and skills in building, constructing, fastening and shaping via hands-on projects that introduce tools, materials, and specialized techniques vital to understanding three-dimensions.
The Space studio is built on the following principles; spatial problem solving that engages the student in spatial thinking; ability to combine conceptual thinking with development of tangible form; ability to understand and master principles of construction; technical/analytical drawing, exploration of a large variety of materials, conceptual design thinking, design and prototyping, documentation and communication; critical design thinking; innovative approaches and strategies that enable the student to understand how to utilize and apply the learning in future designs.
Applicants with expertise in design, architecture and sculpture are invited to apply from a variety of disciplinary backgrounds. This position will join an active Design Foundation faculty team which has four full-time faculty, each responsible for one area of the four pillars of the Design Foundation curriculum that represent basic tenets of Art and Design: Drawing, Surface (2D), Space (3D) and Time (storytelling through media). This position will work closely with the faculty and the Director of the program to develop and build a collaborative and interdisciplinary approach to the curriculum. All faculty contribute to a culture of learning through participation and support for accreditation standards, pursuit of professional creative research, and participation in faculty governance, service, student advising, and other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Qualified candidates should have a terminal degree in Sculpture and Intermedia based visual research and practice. Applicants should possess a broad understanding of contemporary art practices and traditional Sculpture processes. Applicants should be knowledgeable in the history and criticism of a wide range of Sculpture and multimedia approaches, with a balance between conceptual art and object making. The successful candidate is expected to engage in aesthetic, intellectual, and structural dimensions of form in interdisciplinary combinations. The individual should be prepared to take a leadership role in the Sculpture/Intermedia program curricula, and to teach and advise undergraduate and graduate students working across mediums, including but not limited to welding, assemblage, installation, casting, ceramics, video, and kinetic art. Application materials should indicate expertise in the fundamentals of sculpture, awareness of social and cultural context of sculpture/intermedia, capability of engaging in experimental practices and interest in interdisciplinary and collaborative approaches to teaching. Description: The Department of Art at St. Edward's University in Austin, TX seeks qualified candidates for the full-time tenure-track position in Studio Art/Foundations, at the rank of assistant professor, beginning in the fall of 2012. Full-time teaching responsibilities include 4 courses per semester, including multiple sections of Beginning Design and one or more courses in area of expertise. New faculty will teach at least one section of CULF 1319 (Understanding and Appreciating the Arts) every other year. Other teaching duties include the supervision of foundation facilities, academic advising, curriculum development, and mentoring adjunct foundation faculty. Tenure-track faculty are required to maintain on-going professional and creative development, and should continue development in their teaching. Faculty are also required to work with colleagues on assessment of learning outcomes and on recruitment and retention of students, as well as mentor students through research, internships and other professional development opportunities.

Description: The Department of Art invites applications for the position of Tenure track - Assistant Professor of Art/Foundations (Drawing, 2-D Design) beginning August 1, 2012. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications or experience. VSU is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design.
Required Qualifications: MFA in Art by August 1, 2012; Strong commitment to foundations instruction; Record of or capacity to conduct scholarly/creative research; Ability to teach foundation and upper level drawing courses, life drawing, 2-D design, and color theory; Broad understanding of contemporary and traditional art theory and practice related to drawing.
Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate studio courses in drawing, 2-dimensional design (including color theory), and other courses as needed, advising students, department and university service, and other program related activities.
